George Michael will be honored with a special tribute performance at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, bringing together RAYE, Sombr and Teddy Swims for the televised ceremony on September 27.
Organizers announced that the three artists will take part in the tribute with Adam Blackstone serving as musical director. The performance will celebrate Michael’s career and his long connection with the VMAs, where he earned four awards and received the Video Vanguard Award in 1989.
The tribute arrives during a year of renewed attention around Michael’s music. A live album, George Michael: The Faith Tour, is scheduled for release on November 6, followed by a feature-length concert film set to reach U.S. theaters on December 11.
Michael died in December 2016 at age 53. His catalog, including songs from his solo career and his years with Wham!, has continued to reach new generations of listeners.
RAYE, Sombr, and Teddy Swims are also among the contemporary artists receiving attention during the 2026 awards season.
